Fozzie in Riga
June 2020
Mid June was the first opportunity to travel again for most Europeans this year after weeks and months of travel restrictions. With limited flight options Fozzie chose to travel to a place where days are warm and long during summer. Plenty of sunlight and a lot of time to discover the city with its beautiful old town. What a good choice it was to go to Latvia, the Baltic state sandwiched between Estonia and Lithuania. Friendly people, good food and a lot of scenic places in its capital Riga. Fozzie in Riga.
- Before you start exploring a new city, look at things from above first. By the way: I was the only one up there.
- Some alleys are so narrow that even I have to lean in to get into the picture.
- These are the coats of arms of all municipalities in Latvia. 119 in total. I counted them all.
- In some parts of the old town it feels like you walk right into the Middle Ages again.
- Yeah, St. Peter’s Church’s tower looks exactly like in the ticket that I bought. Great views from up there.
- Mid June is the time of the white nights. It’s almost 11pm and still not dark.
- Lean right back and what you see is the Latvian National Library.
- Can you read the word? It’s literally: Fozzie in Riga
- Some advice from a frequent traveller:1. add some colour to your life 2. rather take the small alleys than the major streets
- A country so small, I can even hold it in one hand.
