Fozzie in Yangon
November 2018
“Mingalaba” – that’s how Fozzie was welcomed upon arrival in Myanmar. The former Burma has always been very high on his bucket list. Now that winter makes its way to Europe and the rainy season in South East Asia is over, it is the perfect time to visit the country that had been isolated for many years. Already on his first day it becomes obvious why people often speak of Golden Myanmar. Follow Fozzie to Yangon.
- Traffic in downtown can be very busy sometimes. It might be even be faster to walk.
- When you walk, act like a local. They know when it is safe to cross the streets.
- Not all buildings in downtown are in the best condition. But they still make a good location to have your street food lunch.
- I don’t know why that is, but that green/blue paint seems to be very popular. You see it everywhere in Yangon.
- It’s obvious. Yangon was once under British rule.
- Looks like and old temple? No, just a fancy restaurant that resembles the Royal Barge.
- After so much walking I need some rest. Maha Bandula Park in dowtown is the perfect place for it.
- Even the sky turns golden in Myanmar.
- Did you know? They used tons of gold to plate it. Real gold!
- Your knees have to be covered when you visit the pagoda. Locals wear a longyi, a sarong like garment. So did I.
- The famous Shwedagon pagoda can be seen from all over the city. Not always as beautiful as here from Kandawgyi Lake.
- Make sure you find a nice rooftop spot near busy Sule square to watch the world go by at the end of an exctiting day.
