Fozzie in Beirut
April 2014
Fozzie finds his way into a city of contrast that is trying to reclaim its label as Paris of the East. With some battle scars of the years of fighting still very visible, entire neighbourhoods are being rebuilt and construction booms. Fozzie was suprised about the ostantatious wealth while only a few kilometers further refugees try to start from scratch. A visit in fragile peace times.
- Okay, let’s first get an overview
- People obviously have a lot of money here
- No cars here at Nejmeh Square. How nice.
- Haven’t I seen this one in Istanbul recently?
- Once a cinema it now bears testimony of Civil War times
- Other scars are equally visible after almost 25 years
- I am not sure if I would eat the fish from here
- With no cedars in Beirut, I just had to buy this souvenir
- This is what Beirut is famous for?
- Hey, never seen an orange bear yet at The Courniche?
- Don’t tell anyone!
- Is this still the same city?
